Trade Unit Values (TUV)

Data 2015

Mise à jour: April 20, 2017

The TUV database is a worldwide unit value database developed by the CEPII.

It contains Unit Value information (in US dollars per ton) over the period 2000-2015, with 182 reporters, 253 partners, and more than 5,000 product categories per year. Import and export unit values are provided at the 6-digits level of the Harmonized System.

The Cost of Insurance and Freight (CIF) import unit values rely on importers’ declarations, and include all trade costs (except tariffs and domestic taxes after the border). The Free on Board (FOB) export unit values are a proxy for the trade prices at the factory gate, relying on exporters’ declarations. They do not include trade costs.
 Methodology: a Short Description
The methodology relies on the Tariff lines database of the United Nations Statistical Division, corresponding to the values and quantities of trade declared by individual countries to the UN. Bilateral trade unit values are computed at a very high level of disaggregation before aggregation into Harmonized-System 6-digits categories to allow for cross-country comparability. The processing strategy improves the differentiation of trade prices within product categories, as compared to existing worldwide datasets.

Import (M) and export (X) unit values are provided in HS96 and HS02 revisions of the Harmonized System, for years from 2000 to 2015.

Reporter codes and coverage by year:
HS96: reporter_96M reporter_96X
HS02: reporter_02M reporter_02X

Partner codes:
HS96:  partner_96M partner_96X
HS02:  partner_02M partner_02X
