It is a well-known fact that the rapid growth in China has resulted in growing inequalities in income distribution between households, rural and urban areas and between regions.
However, in order to appropriately evaluate the risks that these inequalities represent for economic growth and social stability, one must assess correctly the extent of the phenomenon, its causes and its possible remedies. Guanghua Wan, a prolific economist on this subject, currently working for the Asian Development Bank, will share with us his most recent findings on this topic. His presentation will be discussed by Françoise Lemoine, Advisor to the CEPII, who has devoted most of her career to a better understanding of China’s economic reforms and growing role in the international economy. This meeting will be chaired by Christophe Destais, Deputy-Director, CEPII.
