Most low-income developing countries (LIDCs) have experienced sustained economic growth and rapid poverty reduction during the past two decades. However, income inequality remains stubbornly high. It is therefore, critical to understand the distributional impact of growth-enhancing policies on income inequality, so that their potential negative consequences on inequality can be mitigated. Focusing on reforms that can have strong growth payoffs in LIDCs, such as structural fiscal policies, and reforms in agriculture, infrastructure, and the financial sector, the presentation will document the consequences on inequality after major reform events in LIDCs. It will provide additional insights on the economic and distributional impact of specific macroeconomic and structural reforms from case studies, given country-specific situations, and examine measures that can help growth and boost economic opportunities for all.
