Workshop "Effectiveness of environmental and social provisions in Regional Trade Agreements"

The workshop will provide an overview of academic research into the interactions between trade and sustainable development, and in particular the integration of environmental and social clauses into trade agreements. The following issues will be addressed: the spread and scope of social and environmental clauses (including thematic clauses on deforestation and biodiversity) in trade agreements, their enforceability and their concrete impacts (notably economic, social and environmental, including forest and biodiversity preservation). Interactions with the multilateral framework (WTO, agreements on climate, biodiversity, plastic pollution, etc.) and with other sustainability initiatives will also be addressed.
